never grow up

disclaimer: all photos taken with the phone, so humor me and pretend they're fab
today I decided to be irrational and pray everyday from here on out that the Lord come back before Elsie hits, I dunno the age of 10.
Like fo' realz.
(I know HE has a master plan and that He is doing a god work in everyone and that there are so many out there that need to be saved by his Grace before all that but like I said I was being irrational)

lemme break down my morning so you can understand

I enter the sunroom all cheery and ready to face the day when I'm smacked with this sight
do you see what I'm seeing
earrings??!!

so I'm not against littles having ears pierced or anything like that. This was about my baby girl lookin' all growns up because she's playing dress up with some of mama's clip ons
I looked at Micah and was like (word for word)
"Jesus better come get us tomorrow because I'm not dealing with miss thang all pretty and grown up mmmkay?"

Micah laughed

I was dead serious

I mean look at her.
well not this one but you know what I mean

she is already so beautiful and aside from the challenges I've had recently with her being a sassy mouth she has the most beautiful soul too.

as I started grinding up my coffee beans I kind of zoned out and just stared at her through the kitchen window into the sunroom and realized I don't ever want her to grow up
ever
period. the end
I know there are new stages to enjoy in her life as she grows but I started freaking about her coming into her own
and whether I'm praying enough over her, Vernon, the both of my precious babes

praying that the friends that will come and go in her life be friends that encourage not bring down
to love her and her tender heart

praying for her to make good choices

praying for her to know Jesus as her own not just because we believe

praying that she would be used greatly for God

praying that she be kept safe from any wicked thing in this world

and the list went on and on and on

until I stopped making coffee
went and sat next to her
took off those earrings
and played with her puzzles
throughout the day I kept looking at her and would start to get overwhelmed with the thought of her becoming a little lady but then I'd pray God take my thoughts captive and to not get so caught up in the things to come

so I could enjoy popsicles before lunch

dance parties in the car

her hiding in all the clothes racks whilst out shopping

carousels and cookies

she is the most fun she has ever been at this age and I can't get enough

but seriously Lord tomorrow is good for me.
I kid, I kid.
Do any of you ever feel this way? Do you fear for your sweet babies futures?
It comes and goes for me and isn't a daily or even weekly thing, but it creeps up on me and gets all up in my grill like today and then I'm all crazy crying over little things like earrings

My baby girl isn't even BORN yet and I freak out over this stuff all the time! Just means you're a good mommy :) And no worries. I'm sure she will grow to be a beautiful, wise little lady – she seems to have a good solid foundation to build from!

Oh girl, I am Sooo with you. I have one of those pretty little thangs at my house. Scared. To. Death.

But ya know, God takes care of it all. But I'll join you in praying for His return tomorrow :)

I had a moment identical to this two days ago. Ashlynn was flipping we hair and posing in the mirror while rambling on and on about being "gorgeous".
It scares the crap out of me.

Elsie is SUCH a doll.

Haha you are hilarious, but I totally know where you are coming from those. She's such a cute little lady playing dress up!!!! It's so hard thinking of our little ones growing up. I"m already getting tearing eye thinking of my baby girl being YOUR gir's age. lol

Nat,

Was searching for my GF's blog with same last name and came across yours. Read you interesting post and had a personal deja vu moment reading about reading your post about your dd with "earrings."question to others about infant ear piercing. A similar situation happened with our 2.5 yr old daughter. She is a girlie girl and fascinated with my jewelry and especially my earrings :) She kept saying she was "earwigs" like mommy pointing to my ears. I loved it when you said, "...do you see what I'm seeing earrings??!!" Mommy, she is just telling you how much she admires and wants to be like her mommy. Imitation is the greatest form of flattery. Dh and I discussed it and surprisingly, he wanted her to have pierced ears! Well, I said that I would ask our ped about it.

Well, I didn't expect what happened next. Our ped actually encouraged me to go ahead saying it was best when mommy could care for them. She said it has become more popular to pierce newborns, infants and little girls ears because is safer with the newer ear piercing instruments than the traditional methods of using a needle, thread by the mother or grandmother. She gave me some suggestions for moms having their dd's ears pierced which included some OTC meds to minimize any discomfort. She said doing them when mommy could care for them was best.

I didn't have long to wait. One day, dh calls out to me from the family room asking me to come in there. Our dd had gotten a pair of my earrings and was asking dh how to put them in her ears! She almost put one in her ear canal! Dh laughed and told me to take her to have them pierced before we had to take her to the ER to remove an earring!

Cerebrally, as mothers of girls of all ages, we know it celebrates their femaleness and femininity. After all, they are little girls, right? Growing up I remember many of my little girlfriends were not allowed to get their ears pierced. I could never understand it...but when their parents did finally
let them, it always seemed they'd get infected because they were constantly touching them or trying to change out the earrings before they were supposed too. Many said it was painful, but all cried having a great deal of angst leading up to and including the actual ear piercing.

Nat, your mommy intuition is telling you to go ahead and have her ears pierced now. As you said, "...so I'm not against littles having ears pierced or anything like that." Right, you're not going to stop her growing up, but you concede she wants earrings and would adorable with gold studs, a CZ or pearls in her ears. Again, there is nothing wrong with her looking like mommy :)

If you or any other moms would like our ped's tips, please write me an e-mail.

The earring are ok as long as she promises to keep that peanut butter and jelly stain on her chin from last nights dinner.

I can relate to this post so much! I feel like that with my son, and he is only one. I fear the world my son and future children will grow up in more than anything. She is so cute and those pictures are great! She will love reading this when she is 14, 16, 18, and a mom- {sorry for making you think of that}

I so know this feeling! How do they get so big so fast! I want to keep L my baby forever. I totally get what you're saying that every new phase is so fun and so different. I love each phase, but then I look back on phases that came and went so fast and I want to do it all over again! Don't you just wish there was a rewind button sometimes? Hugs to you!!!
