Happy Fall!

So tomorrow is the first day of Fall and I couldn't be more thrilled! Though I will be enduring the temps in the mid-eighties here in Southern California I will be most def be gettin' myself an iced pumpkin spice latte tomorrow morning to enjoy as I decorate the house with all its Autumn garb.

Celebrating with Jenny Holiday

I am beyond excited to kick off my birthday celebration with one of my absolute fave artists and shops out there! Let me back up a few years ....
In this crazy blogoshpere I recently reconnected with the sweetest gals (Jenny) whom I purchased some painted wood plaques from back in 2007 from eBay, yes eBay not Etsy, you read that right. This was pre-Etsy days peeps. I re-did my kitchen that year and based it off of those beautiful pieces of art she made. You can view that very old post here. (be warned that was when my blog was viewed only by family and close friends and the quality is, well as you'd expect it to be five years ago...)
Though our new home doesn't have the stripped mint color walls to coordinate with my signs, I do still have those treasured pieces hanging in my kitchen. They are by far one of my favorite things in our home which is why I can hardly wait to get on with this giveaway and introduce you to Miss Jenny herself.
Meet Jenny!
she blogs HERE
has the cutest shop HERE
stalk her on Facebook HERE
swoon over her pinterst boards HERE

Hi! My name is Jenny and in my artsy crafty bloggy world I am known as Jenny Holiday. I blog over at Everyday is a Holiday, which also happens to be the name of the business I share with my man of 18+ years...Aaron!
We live on the Jersey Shore and have two chihuahuas, Carlos & Jack! We've been fortunate enough to have our designs grace the pages of some of our favorite magazines such as Country Living, Country Home, Woman's Day Decorating Ideas, Design New Jersey, Romantic Homes, Somerset Life, Where Women Cook, The New York Times Magazine, and were featured on NBC's The Today Show with Matt Lauer. We are also the duo behind the popular Keep Calm And Have A Cupcake collection of gift bags, bookmarks, notepads etc. that you may have seen at Barnes & Noble, Paper Source and other fab retailers!
As artists, we especially love to share the things we've learned along the way and teach at fabulous art retreats and events across the country, bringing our passion for Mixed Media Arts and Art Journaling to as many enthusiasts as possible! We just launched a blog series last month called Art Journaling with Jenny & Aaron, which takes place every Thursday on the blog! In the classes we create an Art Journal spread step by step with full detailed instructions as well as a video! This series of classes will engage everyone from the beginner to the seasoned Art Journaling nut!
I find it hard to separate work and play, and that is why you'll find so much of my leisure time passions sneaking into my artwork. I am a big collector! Some of my very favorite things to collect are vintage baby doll heads, stuffed pastel colored Easter bunnies from the 40s-50s, old black & white photos of families celebrating birthdays or holidays, vintage cake toppers and decorations, and the list goes on and on! In our shop you will find artwork inspired by or directly featuring some of these collections of mine. Original art prints, plaques, vintage inspired bakery signs, sticker sheets, art kits, and lots more.
I love blogging and have met some amazing people I now count as friends. Oh and I'm pretty much addicted to Pinterest!

And I just have to add that I am so thrilled to be a part of this super sweet gal's Birthday Celebration! Happy Happy Birthday Nat!! xo

Flapper Doll Giveaway from Aubrey Plays

I'm all kinds of excited about this giveaway today. It makes me happy to think that one of you will receive such a precious keepsake like I did for Elsie.

Before I go on about the giveaway I need to give you some back story first. My dear friend Aubrey tweeted me a couple weeks ago about helping her out with a new prototype of these Flapper Dolls she was creating for her shop. I use the word "helping" lightly because really all it involved was me sending her an old outgrown dress so she could convert it into something magical. I was like "uuuuh, yes please, sign me up and how many can I send you?" I kid, I kid, but seriously I did contemplate asking.
Then last week, this package showed up, and both Elsie and I were squealing!
Isn't she darling?! Now this was a big deal that Elsie was excited because she doesn't care for dolls, she only likes her Minnie Mouse plush characters. But when I opened this sweet package and showed her, she looked at the material it was made out of and called her "Elsie Blanket Doll." The doll was made of the same material that made up her nursery and is in the blanket she still carries everywhere with her, so to say she loved her new doll would be an understatement.
Now that I have you all swooning over this little gem I bet you want to know more about the creator huh? She has mad craftsmanship skillz yo' and will keep you on your toes with new and unique product she is constantly dreaming up and adding to her playful shop. Meet Aubrey.

THIS is where aubreyplays. Genuine dork. Mama to three. original. one of a kind. cheeky things that wink at you and make your heart smile.

Seriously her shop is filled with all sorts of lovely that make my heart smile. And today she is giving one lucky reader a Custom Flapper Doll.
I'll let Aubrey explain the concept of these dolls and how truly special of a treat this is!

These baby dolls are completely charming and precious.
They have a look that reminds me of an era when flappers were the thing and retro swim suits were alive!
This one of a kind doll is made from a precious item that you send me.
As I have watched my own babes grow I have have always felt a little sad that their outgrown items sit alone in a closet and remain unseen, but I never had the heart to get rid of them!
(I know, one sappy momma raises her hand right here)
That is where the idea for these flapper babies came from.
You send me an item that holds precious memories and I turn it into a baby for you and hopefully your little one to play with!
Each baby features:
-a hand embroidered face, complete with pouty lips, sleepy eyes and soft pink cheeks.
-wool felt hair in a color of your choice with a bun in the back.
-a pretty matching headband with a crochet flower attached.
-"lace" tights
-if fabric allows, you will also receive a matching skirt.
Are you freaking out about this giveaway as much as I am?? Okay good now go and get your entry on! Oh but one more thing (like there really needs to be one more thing right?) Miss Aubrey is offering all of you FREE SHIPPING with any purchase from her shop.

Summer Sale + Giveaway Winner!

Just in case you missed it on instagram, twitter or even Facebook, I'm having a huge summer sale in the shop.

My girlfriend asked me after she saw the instagram of the sale why I was doing that when the shop is booming and the orders are rolling in.
Well in short. Because I can. HAHA!
No but really, it's because I am really busy with orders right now. Well I'm really busy with a lot of things and just need to do this. God has been blessing me so much with so many opportunities for so many different things so why not bless all of you in return.
You may or may not know, but my shop is primarily run off of custom orders. The pieces that are available in the shop are ones I create in between and in this case left over from the boutique I recently was a vendor at. I'm actually only going to be taking a handful more of custom orders for this month because I really want to focus on being able to create new things. I have a whole notebook full of ideas I want to have in the shop for the Fall but haven't been able to sit and draw up stuff because I'm so busy recreating old pieces that have been requested or designing custom pieces. I haven't been able to just sit and be creative.
So I thought what better time than now to clear out what's in the shop and have all pieces shipped before this weekend. I say this weekend because I have some big plans. Big plans that consist of doing a whole lot of nothin. Micah booked us a quaint little cabin up in Big Bear Lake for next week and I'm so looking forward to relaxing and renewing not only my spirit but my mind. I need some fresh air and some quiet time with my family.

By cleaning up the shop and finishing these last few custom orders before the trip somehow makes me feel much less stressed. I have no idea why? All orders are set on my time fitting into my schedule and I could have easily put a note in the shop stating all orders would be shipped the following week when I return, but I couldn't help feel anxious, like I was going away on this vacay and leaving unfinished business behind.
So the Summer Sale is really just for peace of mind for me. You all basically benefitted from me being a lil' cray cray these past few days.
I will be honest, most of the pieces sold within the first hour of the sale but there are still a few up to be snagged. I can almost guarantee I won't ever have a sale this big again so if there is something you see that you want, snag it! Perfect time to stock up on future gifts!

Oh and before I forget, the winner of the 500 follower Giveaway is Randee Loya!! Email me sweet thang to collect your winnings!

Happy Shopping!

side note: any issues with the shop you may have experience yesterday have been resolved and it is up and running. I also cleaned the shop up a bit so you don't have to scroll through all the sold out pieces.Whatever is available can easily be found now.

A Giveaway, why because I like you...

Monday night I signed on to my blog to write a post about my day when I saw I was nearly at 500 followers. Now I'm not a numbers girl but seeing that and not expecting it still had me happy dancing whether I care too much about it or not. After Alissa tweeted to help a sista' out to reach that milestone and that five hundo mark was not only reached but surpassed I can't help feeling crazy blessed by you all.
I had mentioned doing a giveaway because of it. So I was swirling around ideas in my head thinking of how I would go about doing it and what amazing shops/blogs I would include as part of said giveaway when I realized it's because of all these amazing blogs/shops in this great blogosphere that my community of friends has continued to grow.
I have met so many other mamas, crafters, vintage lovers, flea market shoppers, Disneyland goers, God fearing, Jesus loving, writers, pastry eaters, picture taking, sing in the shower, dance in the rain type of peeps. I love making that connection and watching new friendships bloom. Who even if we only have one thing in common it's that one thread that brings us together and builds up this community.
This gratitude I'm feeling extends past the web and into life away from the monitor as well. All the friends and family who follow along, keeping up to our day to day here on my happy space, means more than you know. I appreciate you all so much and love that you don't judge me for never calling because like you say best "I can just check on your blog to see what you're up to" and I appreciate that so so much. (yes I'm talking to you mom, Shan, Nat, Kate, Jenn, Tricia and the rest y'alls)
Though I'm working harder at being more intentional with both my online and "real" life friends, for the meantime let me just say THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart. You all are constantly blessing my socks off! So today I thought instead of rounding up goodies from all the amazing talents out there I would give away something direct from me to you!

$50 Gift Card to Madewell
This store was just recently introduced to me and from the moment I walked through its doors to shop I was in LOVE! Seriously if you aren't a shopper here you need to be and this is a perfect little sumtin' sumtin' to help get you started.
"Pretty Things" Hand Stitched Hoop
I'm giving away one of my newest creations from the shop
So if you're thinking I don't craft or make things, well what about babies. Are you a mama? I bet you make pretty babies, so technically you do make pretty things. Oh what's that you're not a mama or a crafter? Do you bake? I bet you make pretty treats! Still no? Well, I bet you know someone who does make pretty things and this hoop valued at $50 would be the perfect gift for them!!
How do you enter? Easy Peasy.
You must be a follower of my blog (because come on this is a gift for my fellow followers) and can enter the giveaway using the rafflecopter below.
Good luck and Happy Hump Day!!

with love from me to you

I know I mentioned re-opening the shop the first week of August but since the boutique is still fresh on my mind and many have asked about certain pieces that I created for the event I thought, why not add those to the shop.
But because I'm still having warm and fuzzy feelings from the boutique and cant get over how much the whole event blessed my socks off I thought why not bless all of you as well.
So this week I will be offering FREE SHIPPING for all orders! This includes the fundraising hoops for Project Hope and The Shine Project as well.
Did you catch that?
ALL HOOPS FREE SHIPPING!

But that is not all. The first SIX orders will receive a choice of the following.
OR

Why only the first SIX people you ask?? Well it's because I have three tiny hoops and three tiny garlands left over from the boutique so first come first serve.

Please note that the "tiny" garland is different from the Mini garland I have listed in the shop. This is half the size. Perfect for a small window, door, desk, changing table, large computer monitor, topper to gift wrap or whatever suits your fancy. The possibilities are endless.
The tiny hoop is stitched on vintage linen and display ready in a 3" hoop.
For Free Shipping

Please let me know your preference of tiny hoop or tiny garland in the shipping instructions when you check out. I will let you know which you will be receiving (or if you will be receiving one)because like I said it is first come, first serve.

disclaimer: free shipping and chance at the free gift are only for purchases from items listed in the shop. This is not valid for custom orders or new orders. The shop is still currently closed for new orders until August 1st. Thank you for your understanding.

Scenes from a Fantastic Weekend

So let me set Saturday morning's scene for you. Booth set up time was scheduled for 6:45 a.m. so we set the alarm for 6:20. This wouldn't have normally been a problem but seeing how Micah and I have genius minds we thought it a good idea to go out for dinner after we checked in the hotel the night before for a late night bite at oh say 9:30 pm. This is where you should be shaking your head NO and thinking what we should've been thinking
"you should stay in the room to tag and price all your items?"

Yes, yes I should have because we didn't get back to the room until 11:30 because we were having an amazing time together just talking about the day to come and munching on yummy eats!

Well, Micah fell asleep before I even pulled out the goods to start pricing so I stayed up pricing everything until about 1:00 am. It was a good thing I fought every urge to just cuddle up next to him and close my heavy lids because when I woke up to the alarm it was just like the scene from Home Alone where Kevin's mom realized she left her son at home and screams on the plane "KEVIN!!"
except I didn't forget my son, I forgot something almost as important and sat up and screamed

"MY MAKE UP!!"

Yes, I forgot all of my make-up. All. Of. It.
So we tried to stay calm and made a game plan that I would run to the nearest Rite-Aid and buy stuff to get by and he would set up as much as possible using a text photo of how the display should look. So we drove to the unloading dock and I helped him carry the vintage hutch in and while I still had hot curlers in my hair and sweat pants on I drove to the nearest drug store.

I wish this was a short story but it's not, anyone and everything seemed to be moving in slow motion which was causing my stomach to turn because when I finally did return to the hotel with the make-up it was already 7:40 and so I franticly ran up stairs to get ready only to realize the color was about two shades off and not enough bronzer could fix this ghostly look.
So I had to just use concealer and bronzer and pray the eyeshadow and eyeliner would help take the focus off the rest. I know this may sound vain to you, and I'm sure it kind of is, but I knew I would be meeting so many people face to face for the first time and this is not how I envisioned the whole thing going down. You know like
New friend: "Hi nice to meet you , I'm so and so."
Me: "Hi so happy you came by" (trying not to make eye contact and looking anywhere but at them)
New Friend: "You look, uhhh different in person"
Me: runs down the hall to hide.

HAHAHA! Of course that didn't happen but as I was trying to apply this over priced drug store make-up that is all that was going on in my head.
All I know is that it was one thing after another preventing me from trying to get down there to help Micah set up and when I eventually did it was 8:20, but when I got there I found this.
My sweet man had set up nearly the whole thing except a few hoops and the bow garlands. When I say LIFE SAVER that is an understatement. He is definitely a helpmate comparable to me, and blessed my socks off on Saturday. He could tell I was frazzled and knew how upset I felt about the make-up sitch so stopped and prayed with me and then ran to find us some food as I finished setting up shop.
From that point on the day exceeded my expectations! It was so much fun and I had a blast meeting so many new people and meeting online friends or instagram friends face to face. Micah was so much fun to hang with all day and enjoyed the event just as much as me. So many of our friends came by to shop and support and I was on the verge of tears nearly the whole day because my heart was so so full that it was starting to overflow out of my eyes.
Not only were we blown away by all the amazing people that came to visit but couldn't believe how much God blessed our booth. I was so weary going into this boutique because I know that my items are more on the higher priced level which is why I thought to make a lot of bow garlands to help have lower priced items and yet I only sold two bow garlands and more hoops than I had imagined. I was seriously in awe of the days event and was so sad I had to box up everything to leave. I wanted more time to meet more people, shop the booths and just have a moment to take the whole thing in, but it swirled by so fast that I needed a whole day to soak everything in.
Having two of the raddest booth neighbors right next to me helped make the day that much more enjoyable. Plus Kristen from Vessel Handmade is a boutique pro and since her booth was all set and ready to go she helped me price the last minute items before doors opened! So grateful for her. Summer from Made by Munchies Mama is the sweetest and was so glad to get to know her better!
Because of how much work went into this boutique I was certain this would be my last, but because I had no idea how awesome it would be or how much fun I would have with Micah I'm praying about doing another one (or two) in the fall. We shall see.

So aside from the make-up debacle and running on only a few hours of sleep, this was an amazing experience. I can not say enough how blessed I was by those of you who came to support, shop, visit, meet me, talk to us, share with us, encourage us. I was humbled by all of you because I realized bad make-up and all you cared. You showered us in love and God showed me that there is so much more than just a dollar amount or quantity sold. Being out there, talking with others, sharing with others is what it was all about. Making sales was just the icing on the cake but when it was all said and done I could've just been there in the midst of all of you being blessed.
God was beyond gracious this day. And we praise Him for all that He did.
